If you are looking for a new place for your next adventure, South America is perfect for every traveller. This is the continent of lush rain-forest and unique waterways of Amazon, amazing peaks of the Andes, towering volcanoes, dry desert, ice glacier, beautiful beaches…well, it’s set for big adventures. This is the first reason why I have chosen to travel around South America, my girlfriend, an intrepid traveller, followed me in this big exploration.
Well, looking for beautiful adventures into the nature wasn’t my only reason when I decided to take a flight to South America, here below my other reasons.
-
Culture and History: This place is home of an astounding variety of living and ancient cultures, one of them is the Inca Empire. They left an incredible mark on the countries they have conquered. Just think that Quechua language was imposed on the population and is still spoken today by lots of people. A visit to Machu Picchu is a must, this is the godfather of all the great ruins. Before Inca, Pre-Colombian cultures left behind a wide range of ancient ruins but most of the many untouched architectural buildings that we can still see today were made by Spanish during their conquests. Magnificent cathedrals and colourful painted houses are just two examples of the Colonial splendour.
-
Incredible Wildlife: In South America you can find more plant and animal species than any other place on earth. Just think about marine iguanas, sea lions, endemic birds, amazing sea life that you can find in one single place called Galapagos. But this is not all, Amazon rain-forest that touches 7 different countries, Pantanal biodiversity in Brazil and Paraguay and many other places. South America is unique for that.

Food and Language: Who wants to try varied and tasty food? South America is a perfect place to taste dishes due to the ethnic fusion. The food is different in every region and I always take notes about local food on every city I visit. Habla espanol? Yes, well, I try to speak Spanish. The worldwide prevalence of English make us lazy to learn another language but for me is different, I am Italian and neither English and Spanish are my native language. Anyway my Italian and my love for the “Espanol Idioma” helped me to improve my conversation with South American people. If you don’t speak Spanish I suggest to bring a dictionary or maybe make a short course before your departure.

Easy way to travel: South America is big but every single place is reachable by land. If you travel through South America, you will undoubtedly spend time on a bus. Bus range from overnight coaches with bunks to old school bus.
