Ecuador spans four vastly different worlds. From the endless reaches of the Amazon, to the breathtaking beauty of the Andes, to the legendary Galapagos Islands, well each region boasts a unique landscape, ecosystem and culture. After 21 days in Ecuador with my girlfriend Romina we found this beautiful land an authentic cultural experience with almost 30 different ethnic groups, some of them had limited contact with modern civilisation.
A reliable transportation system, a wide range of accommodations and English readily spoken in the major cities and tourist areas make travel to Ecuador really easy. Ecuadorians are honest and friendly who truly enjoy welcoming foreign visitors to their country, in my opinion a heaven for travellers looking to discover something new and different.
General summary of my trip. Backpacking Ecuador

Enjoying this amazing landscape
Amazing view of cuicocha lake
What about their wonderful biodiversity and natural beauty?!?! We’ve got the coast and Galapagos Islands in the west, a band of Andean highlands running down Ecuador’s center, and the vast expanse of Amazon jungle in the east. This country is home to an amazing number of species, one of the highest concentrations in the world! For example The Galapagos Islands:
These islands are home to some of the highest levels of endemic species (species found nowhere else on earth) anywhere on the planet. About 80% of the land birds you will see, 97% of the reptiles and land mammals, and more than 30% of the plants are endemic. More than 20% of the marine species in Galapagos are found nowhere else on earth. Favourites include the giant Galapagos tortoise, marine iguana, flightless cormorant, and the Galapagos penguin, the only penguin species to be found in the Northern Hemisphere.
I first learned about the Galapagos as an 16 year-old watching a nature documentary on television. 14 years later I was finally able to visit the islands in person I captured my dream.
