Take a look to my Travel Photo Gallery…
Colombia doesn’t have ruins as popular and important as Machu Picchu in Peru, it hasn’t the beautiful Chilean Patagonia, it lacks of unique wildlife like in the Galapagos Islands but this destination is working as hard as possible to gain its own slice of tourism in South America and maybe be one of the top. I’ve been around South America for 6 months with my girlfriend Romina and we found this place breathtaking and full of different things to do. Before taking the decision to get to this country I read more and more travel posts about this country. Almost all the pages I read focused my attention in one point: Colombia is the South American country with a reputation for warring drug barons and kidnapping.
Well, this place is not as bad as it once was, after 20 days travelling from North to South I can say that you need to use common sense and caution to stay safe….Anyway, with places like this Colombia is surprisingly a hot new destination for backpacking.
A wonderful trip around this country. backpacking colombia
- Tayrona Village, Colombia
- At the top of The Rock in Guatapè
- Cocora Valley and their incredible Palm tree
- Tatacoa Desert
It’s a massive country and if you like to travel around it (discovering the most remote places) by bus you have to consider at least 3 weeks. We did it and we are sure we’ve missed a lot of beautiful things to do/see. Anyway, looking the geography of this destination the country is really different than we realised. Andean mountain range to do trekking and hiking, top beaches along the pacific coast, the Amazon rain forest to discover, the dry desert on the south, well…this is Colombia and welcome to this amazing and incredible country.
We were told that Colombia’s violent past made it somewhat difficult for the local people to trust one another, but for me travelling around this country for 20 days was enough time to find out something about these people: friendly, open and really helpful.
IT’S COLOMBIA, NOT COLUMBIA!!
Here how to discover South America in 2 minutes! Me and my wife in our best 120 shots of 6 months of travel… Enjoy
